Assam: Brown Sugar Seized In Lumding; 1 Held

Guwahati: In the ongoing war against drugs Assam Police, one suspected drug peddler along with suspected Brown sugar was seized in Assam’s Lumding on Thursday.

Brown sugar weighing 421.86 grammes that was hidden in 31 soap cases was reportedly found at Lumding Junction in the Hojai district of Assam.

According to officials, the seizure was valued about Rs 2.5 crore. They claimed that the brown sugar was found from a Dibrugarh-Howrah express.

Police also detained one individual in relation to the drug haul. He was identified as Rashidul Haque.

Police were notified that the shipment of brown sugar was being trafficked from Dimapur in Nagaland to Chaparmukh in Assam’s Nagaon.

Meanwhile, cracking the whip on illicit drug smuggling, another accused was taken into custody by Guwahati police from the city’s Garchuk area.

The suspect was detained on suspicion of transporting drugs. During an operation based on particular inputs, the police found 29 containers full of drugs.

Officials informed that the accused was identified as Afzal Ansari, a resident of Jharkhand.
