Assam: BSF Allegedly Assaults Villagers in Dewaner-Alga, Leaving Five Injured
Guwahati: A violent incident occurred in Dewaner-Alga village, South Salmara Mankachar district, on the evening of March 29, leaving five people injured. The alleged perpetrators were a team from the 150 BN BSF camp in Hatirchar, who reportedly entered the village around 9:30 pm and assaulted the locals.
The victims, including a 15-year-old boy, were severely beaten with sticks, and one youth was detained and taken to the BSF camp. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with locals scrambling to help the injured. The victims were then transported across the Brahmaputra River at night to Hatshingimari District Hospital, where they received medical treatment.
One of the injured, Sahidur Islam Mollah, a 15-year-old minor from Dewaner-Alga village, is in critical condition and has been referred to Guwahati for further treatment. Local residents reported that the BSF personnel also physically assaulted several women, including Salema Khatun, Suna Banu, Husnera Khatun, and Jahanara Khatun. An elderly woman was also beaten by the BSF when she attempted to question why her grandchild was being taken away.
The BSF’s actions have sparked outrage in the community, and authorities have conducted a preliminary inquiry into the matter. Reports indicate that the BSF still holds one youth in their custody. The victims’ family members are preparing to file formal charges against the BSF at the Sukhchar Police Station. The incident has left the local community in distress, especially as the region prepares for the Eid celebrations.
