Assam: BSF Foils Cattle Smuggling Attempt Through Brahmaputra River Route
Guwahati, 10th December: Border Security Force (BSF) troops, on a special boat patrol, thwarted an alleged cattle smuggling attempt through the Brahmaputra river route. The incident occurred in the early hours of December 10 when vigilant troops observed suspicious activity near Boreralga char and Khagrachar.
Suspected smugglers were seen with cattle, but due to the alertness of the BSF, the suspects jumped into the Brahmaputra river and escaped. Despite the challenges posed by the riverine and unfenced nature of the region, the troops successfully surrounded the area, leading to the seizure of 22 buffaloes valued at Rs. 2.64 lakhs.
The area is notorious for cattle smuggling during the winter season, especially given its riverine landscape and limited visibility caused by heavy fog.
