Assam: BSF Foils Sugar Smuggling Attempt Along Indo-Bangla Border, Smuggler Arrested

Guwahati, 1st May: In a significant operation targeting sugar smuggling operations along the Indo-Bangla border, the Border Security Force (BSF) achieved a major breakthrough by intercepting a smuggler and seizing a large cache of sugar.

The operation, conducted in Hatsingimari, resulted in the apprehension of Asuruddin Sheikh, a resident of the Sukhsar police station area, who was caught in the act of illegally transporting 96 sacks of sugar to Bangladesh. The interception occurred during a routine patrol along the river route, underscoring the covert nature of the smuggling activity.

Following the arrest, the BSF swiftly handed over Sheikh and the confiscated sugar to authorities at the Sukhsar police station for further investigation. The incident highlights the persistent challenge of sugar smuggling into Bangladesh, with individuals like laborers actively participating in the illicit trade.

Despite concerted efforts by law enforcement agencies, such as the BSF, to combat smuggling activities, the incident underscores the need for enhanced vigilance and collaboration between agencies to effectively curb such illegal practices. Moreover, it raises questions about the proactive role of local police stations, like Sukhsar, in addressing and curbing smuggling operations within their jurisdiction.
