Assam: BTR Government Celebrates Fifth Anniversary of Historic Peace Accord with Grand Events
Guwahati: The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government began a two-day celebration on January 27 to mark the fifth anniversary of the landmark BTR Peace Accord, signed on January 27, 2020.
The accord, a historic agreement between Bodo Movement groups and the Union and Assam governments, has been hailed as a turning point for peace and development in the region.
The festivities commenced with a grand bike rally in Kokrajhar, symbolizing the peace and progress achieved over the past five years.
The rally saw active participation from residents and leaders, including BTR Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro.
Later in the day, an award distribution ceremony was held at the Bodofa Cultural Complex, where individuals excelling in various fields were honored for their societal contributions.
On January 28, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to join the celebrations in Kokrajhar. The day’s events will include the inauguration of newly constructed hostels for BTC Executive Members (EMs) and Members of the Council Legislative Assembly (MCLAs) at Harinaguri, along with the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Kokrajhar University campus.
CM Sarma will also participate in the Gwthar Bathou San celebration at the Bathou Traditional and Cultural Center in Bagansali, followed by a public address.
Reflecting on the significance of the peace accord, BTR Chief Pramod Boro, one of its key signatories, expressed pride in the progress made since its signing.
He highlighted the peace, stability, and development that the accord has brought to the region, calling it a transformative milestone in BTR’s history.
The two-day celebration aims to honor the achievements of the peace accord and to reaffirm the region’s commitment to growth, harmony, and unity.
