Assam: Bulldozers In Action As Eviction Drive Begins In Palasbari

Guwahati, 23rd November: The Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government in Assam continues to carry out eviction drives in different parts of the state since it assumed power in May 2021. Despite opposition criticism, Sarma had on December 21 told the Assembly that eviction drives to clear government and forest lands in Assam would continue as long as the BJP is in power.

However, the state administration’s bulldozer against encroachments is gaining momentum. The eviction drive began on Thursday morning in Palasbari town and a municipal board in Kamrup district is part of a broader initiative targeting various regions across the state.

Palashbari revenue circle along with several other administration officials were also present at the eviction site.

This comes in the wake of similar operations in Silsako Beel and other parts of the state in recent days. The administration’s rigorous approach underscores the necessity of addressing the issue of unauthorized settlements in protected areas.

The eviction drive aims to deport individuals who have unlawfully established residences in forested zones and government-owned lands. The state administration emphasizes the importance of preserving these areas for ecological balance and sustainable development.

Local authorities are working in tandem to ensure a comprehensive and efficient execution of the eviction process. The simultaneous operations in various parts of the state highlight the widespread nature of the issue and the administration’s commitment to upholding the law.
