Assam: Bumper Boost for UPPL as Over 1,000 Rivals Switch Sides in Kokrajhar
Guwahati: The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) received a massive shot in the arm on Thursday with over a thousand members from various opposition parties formally crossing over to the ruling party in a grand induction ceremony held in Kokrajhar.
This unprecedented exodus marks one of the most significant single-day political realignments in the recent history of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), signalling a clear consolidation of power for the UPPL as crucial elections draw nearer.
The Rupnath Brahma Field in Ramfalbil played host to this momentous occasion, where a sea of new recruits pledged their allegiance to the UPPL. The sheer scale of the defections underscores a shifting political dynamic in the region, with the ruling party seemingly gaining significant ground and momentum.
The induction ceremony was a star-studded affair, led by no less than the BTR Chief Executive Member and UPPL President, Pramod Boro himself. He was joined by prominent party stalwarts, including Assam Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma and Lok Sabha MP Joyanta Basumatary, whose presence highlighted the strategic importance the UPPL places on strengthening its presence at the grassroots level.
UPPL General Secretary Raju Kumar Narzary meticulously coordinated the joining process, ensuring a smooth transition for the incoming members. Adding to the weight of the event, former BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyari was also in attendance. This mass defection arrives at a crucial juncture, as political parties across Assam are actively recalibrating their strategies in an increasingly cut-throat electoral environment.
