Guwahati, 22nd June: In a recent media interaction at Kaliabor’s Jakhalabandha, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the postponement of by-elections in flood-affected regions of the state. He stated, “There is no chance of conducting the by-election for at least 2 months from now. The election will be conducted after the flood situation comes to normalcy.”
Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the importance of focusing on relief and recovery efforts before proceeding with electoral activities. He assured the public that the government’s priority remains on addressing the immediate needs of those impacted by the floods.
In the interim, Sarma explained, “For these few days, the MPs will oversee the constituencies.” This temporary oversight arrangement will remain in place until the by-elections are formally announced and conducted. The decision aims to ensure continued representation and support for the affected constituencies during this challenging period.
