Assam Cabinet Approves 2% Dearness Allowance Hike for Employees and Pensioners
Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has taken a significant step to provide financial support to its employees and pensioners by approving a 2 per cent increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA). This decision, announced today, is set to bring considerable relief to a large section of the state’s workforce and retirees.
The approved DA hike will be implemented retroactively from January 1, 2025. This means that thousands of state government employees and pensioners will benefit from the increased allowance starting from the beginning of the year, providing a welcome boost to their financial resources.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a public announcement, highlighted the timing of this beneficial decision. He stated that the revised Dearness Allowance will be incorporated into the salaries of employees before the upcoming Bihu festival, adding to the celebratory spirit. Furthermore, the arrears accumulated from January to March will be disbursed in the months of April and May.
This decision underscores the state government’s dedication to the well-being of its employees and pensioners, particularly in the face of increasing inflationary pressures. The current DA revision builds upon previous increases, demonstrating a consistent effort to ensure that the financial stability of government personnel is maintained.
By implementing this 2 per cent DA hike and ensuring its timely disbursement, especially ahead of the Bihu festivities, the Assam government reaffirms its commitment to aligning employee compensation with the prevailing economic conditions and supporting them during important cultural celebrations.
