Assam Cabinet Approves Major Infrastructure, Healthcare, and Industrial Reforms
The Assam Cabinet, in its meeting on February 23, 2025, approved a series of key policy decisions aimed at boosting economic growth, improving urban infrastructure, and strengthening the healthcare and textile sectors. The decisions mark a significant step towards the state’s development across multiple sectors.
One of the most notable approvals includes Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) worth ₹1,22,000 crore, set to be signed during the upcoming Advantage Assam summit. These investments are expected to generate employment opportunities and accelerate the state’s economic progress.
To address urban congestion, the cabinet sanctioned the construction of a new flyover at Amolapatty junction on old NH-37 in Dibrugarh City. Additionally, ₹55.45 crore has been allocated for urban infrastructure development projects across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, ensuring better civic amenities and transport facilities.
In the healthcare sector, the cabinet approved the Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) Scheme, 2025, which will benefit doctors serving as faculty members in state-run medical colleges. This initiative aims to provide career growth opportunities and retain medical professionals within Assam’s healthcare system.
The textile industry also received a boost with the approval of the Textiles and Apparel Policy, Assam, 2025. This policy is designed to attract investments by ensuring easy access to raw materials and skilled manpower, fostering a robust ecosystem for textile and apparel manufacturing.
Further, modifications to the state’s Biotechnology Policy (2022-2027) were approved to align with the BioE3 Policy. These changes are expected to create a favorable environment for biotechnology research, industry expansion, and entrepreneurship, positioning Assam as a key player in the biotech sector.
