Assam Cabinet Approves Renaming of Hojai District Headquarters

Guwahati: In a significant move to honor the legacy of the revered saint-scholar Srimanta Shankardeva, the Assam State Cabinet has approved the renaming of the Hojai district headquarters from “Shankardeva Nagar” to “Srimanta Shankardeva Nagar.”

This decision underscores the state government’s dedication to preserving and promoting the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Assam. Srimanta Shankardeva, a prominent figure in the 15th century, played a pivotal role in shaping the region’s cultural landscape.

The renaming is anticipated to further solidify the connection between the district and the saint, fostering a deeper appreciation for his contributions to Assamese literature, music, and philosophy.

This development comes on the heels of another significant renaming announcement earlier this month. The government had officially renamed Karimganj district as Sribhumi and Karimganj town as Sribhumi Town. This move was also aimed at acknowledging the region’s historical and cultural significance.

As these changes are implemented, authorities are urging residents and businesses to update their official documents and records accordingly. The government has assured that support will be provided to facilitate a smooth transition.
