Assam Cabinet Approves Reservation of Medical College Seats for Bhutanese, Preparing for Royal Visit
Guwahati, 1st November: The Assam Cabinet, during its weekly meeting, has approved the reservation of five seats in medical colleges in the state for Bhutanese students. This decision aims to strengthen the relations between Assam and Bhutan. The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, is scheduled to visit Assam on November 3 and 4. Assam’s Tourism Minister, Jayanta Mallabaruah, announced this during a press conference, expressing hope that the royal visit will further enhance the neighboring countries’ bond.
As part of the initiative, at least five seats in MBBS and dental colleges in Assam will be reserved for Bhutanese nationals. These reserved seats will include two in Nalbari Medical College, one in Barpeta Medical College, and two seats in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) college. The Royal Bhutan Ambassador, H.E. Major General Vetsop Namgyel, also recently met with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to discuss the preparations for the royal visit. This move symbolizes the commitment to nurturing ties between Assam and Bhutan.
