Assam Cabinet Expansion: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Inducts Four New Ministers

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expanded the Assam Cabinet on December 7, 2024, inducting four new ministers to bolster the government’s efforts in ensuring balanced regional representation and accelerating development across the state.

Newly Inducted Ministers:

  • Prasanta Phookan (Dibrugarh Constituency)
  • Kaushik Rai (Lakhipur Constituency)
  • Krishnendu Paul (Patharkandi Constituency)
  • Rupesh Goala (Doomdooma Constituency)

The expansion raises the strength of the Council of Ministers to 20 members, leaving one position vacant, which is expected to be filled soon.

CM Sarma emphasized addressing the lack of representation from Assam’s Barak Valley in the Council. “Today, we have inducted four ministers to ensure balanced representation. The Council of Ministers has been strengthened to drive ongoing development activities in the state,” he said during the oath-taking ceremony held at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

The event was attended by senior government officials, party leaders, and stakeholders.

This expansion underscores the Assam government’s intent to provide comprehensive representation, reflecting its dedication to inclusive growth and governance. The inclusion of legislators from diverse constituencies aims to strengthen the administration’s ability to address regional priorities and foster equitable development across the state.

With one ministerial position still open, further cabinet developments are anticipated to optimize governance and representation.
