Assam Cabinet to Discuss Allegations Against MP’s Wife Amid Security Concerns

Guwahati – The Assam Cabinet is set to convene on February 16 to discuss recent allegations involving a Member of Parliament from Assam and the possible implications for national security, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on social media platform X.

The Cabinet meeting will focus on conducting an objective and thorough assessment of the issue, ensuring that any required actions are taken from a nonpartisan standpoint, CM Sarma stated.

The controversy erupted following claims made by BJP spokesperson Kishor Upadhyay, alleging that Elizabeth Gogoi, wife of Congress Lok Sabha Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi, had links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Upadhyay claimed that she previously worked in Islamabad under *Tauqir Sheikh, a key advisor to Pakistan’s Planning Commission.

Amid the growing political storm, CM Sarma also questioned Gaurav Gogoi’s motives behind his inquiry in Parliament regarding India’s coastal radar stations, raising concerns over why an MP from a *landlocked state would seek such classified information. Sarma further alleged that Gogoi made the request *shortly after meeting with the Pakistani High Commissioner, intensifying suspicions.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi vehemently denied the accusations, branding them as laughable. Responding with sarcasm, he remarked, “If my wife is an ISI agent, then I must be a RAW agent.”

With tensions rising over the allegations and their potential impact on national security, the upcoming Assam Cabinet meeting is expected to address the matter with urgency and seriousness.
