Assam: Cachar District Launches Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 2.0 to Promote Healthier Lifestyles

Guwahati: The District Administration of Assam’s Cachar district, in partnership with the District Health Society, has officially launched the Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 2.0, aiming to create a healthier, tobacco-free society.

Inaugurated by District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, this 60-day campaign is focused on empowering the youth of Cachar to resist or quit tobacco use, fostering healthier lifestyles and a cleaner environment.

The initiative will emphasize educational outreach, community mobilization, and strict enforcement of tobacco control laws, such as the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA) 2019.

The launch event saw attendance from key district officials and community leaders, highlighting broad support for the campaign.

The campaign will include awareness drives, distribution of informative materials, and efforts to build tobacco-free villages and educational institutions.

Social media platforms will be utilized to engage youth and raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use, ultimately promoting a tobacco-free future for Cachar.
