Assam: Cachar District Offers Lucrative Subsidy to Boost Green Tea Industry

Cachar, Assam: The District Industries and Commerce Centre (DICC) in Cachar has unveiled a new subsidy scheme to provide a significant boost to the district’s green tea industry. The initiative, implemented under the Cess Utilization (Amendment) Policy 2017, aims to support small-scale entrepreneurs and streamline logistics for the tea sector.

Eligible applicants, including Self-Help Groups (SHGs), partnership firms, cooperative societies, and companies with 100% equity holders from Scheduled Tribe Groups (STGs), can avail a generous 75% subsidy on the actual cost of vehicles used for transporting green tea leaves. This subsidy is capped at Rs 75,000 per vehicle.

For the current financial year (2024-25), Cachar district has been allocated two vehicles under this scheme, with a total subsidy target of Rs 7.50 lakh.

  • Eligibility: Registered SHGs, partnership firms, cooperative societies, and 100% STG-owned companies.
  • Subsidy: 75% on the actual cost of vehicles (capped at Rs 75,000 per vehicle).
  • Deadline: December 5, 2024.
