Assam: Cachar Police Launch Investigation into Objectionable Social Media Post Linked to Former NIT Silchar Student

Guwahati, August 26, 2024: Cachar Police have launched an in-depth investigation into a controversial social media post deemed objectionable and carrying anti-India sentiments. The post, which surfaced several days ago, has prompted local authorities to track down its origin and hold the responsible individual accountable.

Initial findings have linked the post to Sadat Hossain Alphi, a former student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, who is currently residing in Bangladesh. In response to the investigation, a team from Cachar Police made several visits to NIT Silchar to discuss the situation with both the institution’s officials and current students, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of the context and any potential connections.

In the wake of the controversy, Alphi has since updated his social media profiles, claiming his accounts were hacked. In both his Instagram and Facebook bios, he stated, “I have no hate for Indian people, but my ID was hacked; the previous post was not made by me. Sorry for that.” This declaration has added another layer to the ongoing investigation, as authorities work to determine the authenticity of his claims.

NIT Silchar has expressed its full cooperation with the investigating agencies. The institution has also urged the police to ensure that peace and tranquility are maintained on campus and in the surrounding areas during the course of the investigation. As the probe continues, both local authorities and NIT Silchar are taking steps to manage the situation carefully to prevent any escalation of tensions.
