Assam: Cachar Schools Ordered Closed Due to Severe Flooding

Guwahati, 30th May: All schools in Cachar have been ordered to close on May 30 and May 31 due to severe flooding, according to a directive from the Cachar District Commissioner. The closure comes as the flood situation in the Barak Valley remains critical, with widespread submersion disrupting normal life.

Floodwaters have continued to rise across the valley, with rivers swelling dangerously and surpassing their danger levels. Numerous localities in Cachar are underwater, exacerbating the crisis and hindering daily activities. As of May 29, conditions showed no signs of improvement, with the water levels posing a significant threat to both residents and infrastructure.

Emergency services are on high alert, with the district administration working tirelessly to manage the situation and provide relief to those affected. Authorities have urged residents to stay safe and adhere to official advisories as efforts to mitigate the flood’s impact continue.

The closure of schools is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst the ongoing crisis. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates as necessary.
