Assam: Cash Reward Offered for Information on Sunil Gogoi’s Murder in Lakhimpur

Guwahati, 6th June: The Lakhimpur police have taken a significant step in their investigation into the tragic murder of Sunil Gogoi, announcing a cash reward for any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators. Superintendent of Police made the announcement on June 6, ensuring anonymity for informants to safeguard their safety.

Residents with valuable information are urged to reach out to the police at 6026900825. The case, registered under Dhakuakhana PS Case No-39/24, involves serious charges under sections 120(B), 302, 201, and 34 of the IPC. Sunil Gogoi, hailing from Sapotia Chetia Gaon village in Lakhimpur, was the victim of this heinous crime.

Sunil Gogoi, a contractor associated with the Jal Jeevan Mission, met a tragic end when he was brutally murdered and his body set ablaze near his home in Dhakuakhana, North Lakhimpur. His decapitated and partially burnt remains were discovered on the night of June 1. Gogoi had left his residence that evening, purportedly in pursuit of a frog, and his belongings, including a machete and a bamboo stick, were found at the crime scene.

Authorities are exploring the possibility that Gogoi’s murder may be linked to his recent involvement in the arrest of corrupt executive engineer Jayanta Kumar Goswami. Gogoi’s complaint led to Goswami’s apprehension by the anti-corruption department, suggesting a potential motive behind this appalling act of violence.

The offering of a cash reward underscores the police’s commitment to apprehending the perpetrators and delivering justice for Sunil Gogoi. It also highlights the community’s role in assisting law enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat crime and uphold public safety. Residents are encouraged to come forward with any pertinent information to aid in the investigation and bring closure to this tragic incident.
