Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah officially inaugurated the park for the new tourist season, emphasizing its significance as a prime destination for nature lovers.
The celebration kicked off with a vibrant cultural procession that showcased the rich heritage of Assam and the indigenous communities surrounding the park. Traditional music, dance, and attire filled the air, illustrating the deep connection between the region’s culture and its natural beauty.
Following the cultural festivities, a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony opened the park to visitors after its seasonal closure during the monsoon. The reopening generated considerable excitement, as Manas National Park is renowned for its rich biodiversity, including endangered species like the Bengal tiger and the Indian rhinoceros.
During his address, Minister Baruah underscored the importance of eco-tourism for Assam’s economic growth. “Assam is blessed with immense natural beauty, and Manas National Park stands as one of the state’s premier destinations for tourists worldwide. We look forward to welcoming more visitors this season while promoting sustainable tourism practices,” he stated.
A highlight of the day’s events was an adventurous river rafting activity on the Manas River, which attracted participation from Minister Baruah and other dignitaries. This thrilling experience aims to promote adventure tourism in Assam, showcasing the state’s potential for outdoor activities while encouraging eco-friendly tourism experiences.
Pramod Bodo, Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), also spoke at the event, emphasizing the park’s role in local development and conservation efforts. Officials from both the Tourism and Forest Departments were actively engaged throughout the day, reflecting their commitment to managing and conserving the park. Manas National Park, located at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, spans over 950 square kilometers and is home to various flora and fauna, making it a prime destination for eco-tourists and wildlife enthusiasts.
