Assam: Celebrations in Margherita for Mahalaya Mark the Arrival of Goddess Durga

Guwahati, 2nd October: The streets of Margherita came alive with vibrant celebrations as locals gathered in large numbers to observe *Mahalaya, a day that marks the auspicious arrival of **Goddess Durga. The enthusiasm among the people was palpable, reflecting the festive spirit that envelops various parts of Assam during the *Sharodiya Durgautsav.

From early morning, devotees filled the streets of Margherita sub-division, seeking the blessings of the Goddess. According to Hindu mythology, it is on this day that *Brahma, Vishnu, and *Maheshwar created Goddess Durga to vanquish the demon Mahishasura. This significant event is a reminder of the triumph of good over evil.

To further enrich the festivities, the Navoday Cultural Association Margherita organized a drama that captivated the audience, celebrating the rich cultural heritage associated with Durga Puja.

Mahalaya events are underway across the state, with communities hosting prayers, cultural programs, and devotional gatherings. Temples and homes are adorned with festive decorations as devotees prepare to welcome the Goddess with open hearts and fervor, marking the beginning of a cherished tradition in the region.
