Assam: Chaos Erupts at Chirang BJP Meet Amid Allegations of Assault by Party Leader

Basugaon: A special reconciliation meeting of the Chirang Mandal BJP held at the newly inaugurated party office in Basugaon spiraled into chaos late Wednesday night following serious allegations of physical assault and molestation against a senior BJP leader.

The meeting, convened within the Gaudiya Math complex—where the new party office is located—was meant to resolve growing internal rifts ahead of the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections. However, the session devolved into a heated clash between two rival factions of the Mandal, exposing deepening tensions within the party’s local unit.

According to eyewitnesses, the meeting saw verbal altercations, abusive exchanges, and eventually physical confrontations, despite the presence of top district leaders including Chirang District BJP President Ratan Chandra Roy, district in-charge Sukhen Roy, and other senior office-bearers.

The situation turned grave when a woman party worker accused the Ward No. 4 Commissioner of Basugaon Municipal Board—also a BJP leader—of physically assaulting her and attempting to outrage her modesty by tearing her clothes during the brawl.

The alleged assault, witnessed by several party functionaries, has triggered widespread outrage among party members, particularly women workers, who are now demanding immediate disciplinary action and legal proceedings against the accused.

Party insiders revealed that the rift within the Chirang BJP unit has been simmering for months, and the latest incident has further deepened the crisis, raising concerns over leadership accountability, internal discipline, and the safety of women members.

While no official FIR has been confirmed as of now, calls for a party-level inquiry are mounting. At the time of filing this report, BJP district leadership had yet to release a formal statement on the incident.

The controversy comes at a critical time for the BJP in the Bodoland region, potentially jeopardizing its image and organizational coherence ahead of key local elections.
