Assam Chief Minister Affirms Commitment to Address Illegal Infiltration

Guwahati, 10th December: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reaffirmed the government’s dedication to addressing the issue of illegal infiltration. On the occasion of Swahid Divas, CM Sarma mentioned ongoing efforts, including plans to identify names fraudulently registered in the National Register for Citizens (NRC) using fake documents. He emphasized the government’s commitment to removing such names from the NRC to ensure its integrity and legitimacy.

Furthermore, CM Sarma expressed support for the base year for determining citizenship as 1951, stating that he will accept whatever the law dictates. He reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling the conditions laid down in Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, assuring protection of the rights of indigenous Assamese people regarding employment, land, and identity.

Regarding recent grenade attacks, CM Sarma highlighted the need for ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah to join the mainstream to curb such militant activities.
