Assam Chief Minister Announces Reforms to Modernize Police Force

Guwahati, 25th May: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on May 25 announced significant reforms aimed at enhancing the efficiency and welfare of the state’s police force. Emphasizing the importance of modernizing the Battalions, Sarma highlighted their pivotal role within the policing ecosystem and the need for improved housing and assured promotional avenues for staff.

Taking to the microblogging site X, the Chief Minister stated, “Our Battalions are at the core of our policing ecosystem and modernising them is a key focus area of our Government. Apart from enhanced budgetary support and amenities, better housing and assured promotional avenues have also been implemented.”

The reforms outlined by Sarma focus on several key areas:

  1. Enhanced Budgetary Support and Amenities: Increased funding and improved amenities are being prioritized to modernize the police Battalions effectively.
  2. Administrative and Functional Reforms: These include the creation of multiple posts and the addition of 100 non-gazetted positions to streamline operations and enhance administrative efficiency.
  3. Housing Initiatives: In a bid to address housing needs, the government plans to construct 10,000 new 2 BHK houses in the fiscal year 2024-25, along with an additional 2,000 houses in the current financial year. These initiatives aim to provide better living conditions for police personnel.
  4. Welfare Initiatives: The introduction of increased ration money and the assurance of three rank promotions aim to support the overall well-being and career progression of the police force.

These reforms signify the government’s commitment to modernizing and uplifting the Battalions, thereby enhancing the operational efficiency and welfare of the state’s policing system.
