Assam Chief Minister Chairs Meeting on Road Safety During Festive Season
Guwahati, 20th October: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over a meeting dedicated to road safety, focusing on strategies to reduce road accidents. The meeting included Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, and District Transport Officers, who engaged in discussions on various measures to control traffic and prevent accidents, particularly during festive occasions when traffic violations and accidents tend to surge.
The Assam Chief Minister emphasized the importance of strict enforcement of safety laws and the need to intensify awareness campaigns, especially during the festive season. Guwahati experiences a significant influx of people during festive periods like Durga Puja and Diwali, which often leads to a rise in incidents of traffic violations and road accidents.
Earlier, Guwahati DCP Traffic Jayanta Sarathi Borah announced the activation of Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) cameras in the city. This initiative aims to reduce the physical presence of police personnel on the roads and, instead, send SMS notifications with e-challans to traffic violators within 24 hours of an offense. These combined efforts reflect a proactive approach to enhance road safety and reduce accidents during festive seasons.
