Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Avoids Uttarakhand Court’s Summon Question

Guwahati, 19th October: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during a visit to a Durga Puja pandal celebration in Nalbari district, avoided answering questions about a court summon from Uttarakhand. When asked about the court summon, he smiled and responded, “These are irrelevant things,” before walking away without providing a detailed answer.

The court summon in question is related to a defamation case filed against CM Sarma by a Congress party member in Uttarakhand. This case pertains to derogatory remarks made by Sarma about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a rally in Uttarakhand before the state’s Assembly elections last year. The complainant argued that Sarma’s statement insulted Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi’s mother.

Although the court had initially summoned Chief Minister Sarma for a hearing on September 21, he did not appear. Subsequent notices were sent for appearances on October 17 and, most recently, on November 18. Sarma has not attended any of these hearings.
