Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Criticizes Congress for Celebrating Despite Electoral Loss

Guwahati, 23rd June: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sharply criticized the Congress party for its jubilant demeanor in Assam following its defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Sarma alleged that the Congress garnered 30 lakh votes exclusively from 21 minority assembly constituencies, securing 100 percent of minority votes in those areas.

“Why is Congress so happy in Assam? I analyzed and found that they got 30 lakh votes in only 21 minority assembly constituencies. Congress got 100 per cent minority votes, that is why their leaders are walking around with their heads held high,” Sarma stated, taking a dig at the opposition party.

Mocking their celebrations, Sarma suggested humorously, “The manner in which Congress is rejoicing should be considered for inclusion in the Guinness World Records.”

Highlighting electoral statistics, Sarma pointed out that the Congress accumulated 80 lakh votes in total during the elections. He further clarified that the 39 percent vote share attributed to the Congress does not present an accurate reflection when considering support from allied parties like the National Council.

“We are at 47 percent, they are at 39 percent. But this 39 percent does not give accurate information,” Sarma emphasized, underlining the complexities of electoral dynamics.

Regarding minority voter distribution, Sarma noted, “The minority in Assam cast half of their votes in 21 constituencies. From upper to lower, from Barak to mountains, from plains to Dhubri, they have not taken the votes from anyone.”

Speaking about potential outcomes if 72 seats in the Vidhan Sabha were converted, Sarma projected that the BJP would secure victory with over 20 thousand votes compared to Congress.

The Assam Chief Minister’s remarks come amidst ongoing political scrutiny and analysis following the Lok Sabha elections, underscoring the competitive landscape and electoral strategies in the state.
