National Desk, 1st August: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also serves as the BJP’s co-in-charge for Jharkhand, visited Gaibathan village in Pakur to address a pressing issue regarding Adivasi land. CM Sarma revealed that, despite the protections offered under the SPT law prohibiting the transfer of Adivasi land, two Bangladeshi infiltrators had illegally occupied such land.
Sarma criticized the local administration for failing to act on a court order mandating the removal of the infiltrators and the restitution of the land to the Adivasi family. He described an incident where the Adivasi family faced violence when attempting to construct a house on their land and urged the Adivasi Chief Minister of Jharkhand to intervene.
Sarma also expressed concerns about the broader issue of infiltration in regions like Pakur and Sahibganj. He highlighted the challenges posed by porous borders and criticized the West Bengal and Jharkhand governments for their perceived leniency towards Rohingya infiltration.
Earlier, on July 31, Sarma had lambasted the Bengal and Jharkhand governments for their handling of the Rohingya issue. In a press conference in Guwahati, he accused them of being too lenient, noting that while Assam remains vigilant, the porous nature of the border allows continued infiltration.
