Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to Receive Prestigious Singapore Fellowship

Guwahati, 17th September: In a moment of pride for the state of Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to be honored with the esteemed ‘Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship’ during his forthcoming visit to Singapore. This prestigious recognition underscores CM Sarma’s outstanding contributions and leadership in the realms of development and international harmony.

Notably, Himanta Biswa Sarma becomes the first Chief Minister of Assam to receive this distinguished fellowship. He has been chosen for this honor in acknowledgment of his significant role in advancing the causes of development and fostering international goodwill.

The ‘Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship’ was established in 1991 as a tribute to Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the founding Prime Minister of Singapore, for his remarkable contributions to the nation. This fellowship is presented to individuals who have made notable contributions to national development and have actively promoted international goodwill.

Himanta Biswa Sarma joins the list of former Indian recipients of this esteemed fellowship, which also includes former Vice Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, former Union Minister Arun Shourie, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu, and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan. This acknowledgment highlights the rising international admiration for his tireless efforts to promote development and collaboration.
