Notably, Himanta Biswa Sarma becomes the first Chief Minister of Assam to receive this distinguished fellowship. He has been chosen for this honor in acknowledgment of his significant role in advancing the causes of development and fostering international goodwill.
The ‘Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship’ was established in 1991 as a tribute to Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the founding Prime Minister of Singapore, for his remarkable contributions to the nation. Himanta Biswa Sarma joins the list of former Indian recipients of this esteemed fellowship, which also includes former Vice Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, former Union Minister Arun Shourie, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N.
