Assam Chief Minister Inspects Legislative Assembly Complex Site in Dibrugarh
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently inspected the site of the upcoming Legislative Assembly complex and MLA hostel at Khanikar in Dibrugarh. The Chief Minister asserted that the state will reclaim the lost glory of Dibrugarh and transform the city into a modern second capital of Assam.
In January, Sarma had announced plans to develop Dibrugarh, located around 450 km from Guwahati, as the second capital of the state within the next three years. Taking to his official X handle, CM Sarma stated that work on the new Assam Assembly Complex is scheduled to begin by the end of 2025.
The assembly building, with a capacity for 160 MLAs, along with their quarters, will be constructed at the proposed site. The tender process is set to start in May. Notably, two Assembly sessions will be held in Dibrugarh, and another two will be held in Guwahati. A circuit house with 75 rooms for government officials is also planned near the assembly building.
The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. Sarma also reviewed the progress of the construction of the Khanikar stadium. In addition to the infrastructure development, the Chief Minister chaired a meeting to discuss artificial flooding in Dibrugarh. He directed officials to ensure the completion of flood mitigation works within a specified timeline, emphasizing accountability and efficiency in execution.
