Assam Chief Minister Mourns Landslide Tragedy in Kerala’s Wayanad

Guwahati, 30th July: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed profound sorrow following the devastating landslides that struck Wayanad, Kerala, on July 30. Sarma shared his condolences on the microblogging site X, offering heartfelt sympathies to the victims and their families.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the terrible landslides in Wayanad, Kerala,” Sarma stated. He extended his prayers for the victims and their families and wished for the swift recovery of those injured.

The landslides, triggered by ongoing heavy rainfall, resulted in the deaths of four individuals, with several others feared trapped. The disaster has prompted a significant response from the central government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured full support to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Modi announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.

In response to the crisis, 250 emergency service personnel have been deployed to the affected Chooralmala area. Additionally, two Air Force helicopters have been dispatched to support rescue operations, and a team from the National Disaster Response Force is on its way.
