Assam Chief Secretary Stresses Tight Vigilance Along Indo-Bangladesh Border to Curb Crimes

Guwahati: During the 7th State-Level Standing Committee Meeting, Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota underscored the importance of enhancing vigilance along the Indo-Bangladesh border to combat cross-border crimes.

The meeting, which included officers from the Border Security Force (BSF), State Border Police, and the Directorate of Narcotics, focused on tightening security and law enforcement efforts in the region.

Kota proposed the establishment of 12 additional Border Police Stations across the districts of Cachar, Karimganj, Dhubri, and South Salmara to bolster security. Discussions also covered the need for adequate manpower deployment at border outposts and patrol points.

The BSF briefed the meeting, stating that the entire border, except for riverine areas, has been fenced. For those areas, advanced electronic surveillance systems are being used.

The BSF reported a significant reduction in illegal immigration, attributed to coordinated efforts among law enforcement agencies.

Additionally, plans were reviewed for the relocation of 10 border villages, and Kota directed all stakeholders to collaborate in monitoring vehicles involved in drug smuggling operations.

This heightened focus on security comes as part of Assam’s ongoing efforts to strengthen border management and curb illegal activities across the international boundary.
