Assam: Chirang Police Bust Theft of HUL Goods Worth Lakhs

Guwahati: Chirang Police have successfully recovered a substantial consignment of Hindustan Unilever (HUL) products, valued at approximately Rs 36 lakh, which were reported missing from a truck traveling from Kolkata towards Guwahati. The recovery operation followed a swift investigation launched after the theft was reported.

The 10-wheeler truck bearing registration number AS 01 NC 3091 was the vehicle from which the valuable cargo vanished under mysterious circumstances. Following a formal complaint lodged by the truck’s owner, authorities at Runikhata Police Station initiated an immediate inquiry into the incident.

The investigation led the police to a breakthrough in the Thaisobari area under Runikhata, a region situated near the Indo-Bhutan border in the Chirang district. It was at the residence of an individual identified as Saumkhou Basumatari where the entire stolen consignment was eventually located.

During the course of their investigation, police apprehended two drivers of the aforementioned truck, identified as Rupchand Ali, 38, and Imamul Haque, 32. Their subsequent interrogation provided crucial leads that directed the police to the hidden cache of stolen goods.

Acting on this vital information, law enforcement officials conducted a raid on the premises of Saumkhou Basumatari. The operation resulted in the successful recovery of the complete stolen consignment, comprising a variety of HUL cosmetic and personal care products. Saumkhou Basumatari has also been taken into custody in connection with this case.

This incident has brought to the forefront the issue of potential organized theft operations targeting goods in transit. The prompt and effective action by the Chirang Police underscores their commitment to combating such criminal activities and ensuring the recovery of high-value stolen property. Authorities have indicated that a more comprehensive investigation is currently in progress to uncover the full network and extent of this illicit operation.
