Assam: Chital Succumbs to Neglect at Gauripur Veterinary Dispensary
Guwahati: A spotted deer, locally known as a chital, met a tragic end at the Gauripur Veterinary Dispensary in Dhubri, Assam, succumbing to injuries after hours of waiting for medical attention.
The animal, rescued from the Batuatuli area under Balajan police station, was brought to the dispensary in hopes of receiving urgent care.
However, the deer’s life was lost due to the alleged delayed response of the veterinary doctor, Dr. Jamsher Ali Ahmed. Sources indicate that Dr. Ahmed, who has previously faced accusations of issuing fitness certificates to illegal cattle smugglers, was not present at the dispensary when the injured animal arrived.
Balajan police, who transported the deer to the facility, were unable to secure immediate treatment, leading to the animal’s death. The deer’s body now lies exposed outside the dispensary, sparking widespread outrage from concerned citizens and animal welfare organizations.
The incident has drawn the attention of the Gauripur Forest Department, with a team of personnel arriving at the dispensary to assess the situation. The death has ignited a wave of criticism regarding the inadequacy of veterinary services and the perceived lack of accountability within the local healthcare system.
Local residents and wildlife activists are demanding a comprehensive investigation into the incident, specifically calling for strict action against Dr. Ahmed. Accusations of negligence and corruption have intensified, highlighting the urgent need for improved animal healthcare infrastructure and responsible veterinary practices in the region.
