Assam: Chouhan Lauds Northeast’s ‘Lakhpati Didis’ in Samaguri Empowerment Drive
Guwahati: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, during his two-day Northeast tour, engaged with approximately 50 successful women entrepreneurs in Samaguri, Nagaon, who are part of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM).
These women, celebrated as ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and ‘Maha-Lakhpati Didis’, have achieved substantial financial autonomy through their self-help groups, earning incomes in the hundreds of thousands annually.
The minister conducted an interactive session, delving into the women’s paths to financial independence. He sought to understand the direct influence of government-backed livelihood programs on their achievements and the challenges they overcame. Chouhan expressed keen interest in the personal narratives of these entrepreneurs, aiming to gather insights into the real-world impact of rural development initiatives.
Chouhan also visited various stalls displaying products crafted by the women under the NRLM umbrella. He commended their unwavering commitment, innovative spirit, and the pivotal role of rural entrepreneurship in invigorating local economies. The minister highlighted the women’s contributions as exemplary models of self-reliance and economic empowerment, underscoring the potential for rural women to drive significant economic change.
