Assam: CID Summons Two APS Officers in APSC Cash-for-Job Scam Investigation

Guwahati, 7th December: Two Assam Police Service (APS) officers, Faruk Ahmed and Ashima Kalita, have been called in for questioning by the Assam Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) as part of the ongoing probe into the APSC cash-for-job scam.

They are required to appear at the CID headquarters in Guwahati today.

Earlier this week, APS officer ADCP Sukanya Das was arrested.

Previously, the Government of Assam suspended 21 civil servant officers in connection with the notorious APSC cash-for-jobs scam.

Among the suspended officers, 11 belong to the Assam Police Service (APS), four are Assam Civil Service (ASC) officers, with one each from Excise Inspector, ARCS officer, and three Assistant Employment Officers.

The investigation into criminal offenses related to the APSC cash-for-job scam has disclosed that these officers gained advantages through irregularities by illicitly inflating their marks, enabling them to be recommended for appointments.

Acting on the report of former Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma, all 21 officers have been suspended from their positions and are currently undergoing interrogation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police.

The scam implicates several high-ranking officials, including two Gazetted Officers who have been summoned to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The involvement of Assam Police Service (APS) officers in such fraudulent activities raises serious concerns about the integrity of public service in the state.
