Assam: Civilian Injured in Gunfight At Pengeri

Guwahati: One civilian were reportedly seriously injured on Wednesday morning in a gunfight between security forces and militants from the banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) at Lekhapani area in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

The injured civilan has been identified as 29-year-old Amrit Mukhiya, resident of Khatangpani. He has sustained bullet injury in his right leg.

He has been shifted to the Tinsukia Civil Hospital for better treatment.

The gun battle reportedly broke out at around 4 am at a forest area in Pengeri.

Vehicular movement on the Digboi-Pengeri road has been blocked in view of the firing incident.
