Assam CM Addresses Legislative Assembly on Power Tariffs and Load Shedding

Guwahati, 11th September: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in his address to the Autumn Session of the State Legislative Assembly, highlighted the state’s power tariff and load-shedding situation.

CM Sarma pointed out that Assam’s power tariff is lower compared to states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat. He also addressed the issue of regular load shedding, stating that it has been resolved, with no load shedding occurring in the state for the past two days.

He explained that Assam faces challenges in power generation due to its dependence on other states, but measures are being taken to address the issue. The state is set to receive a semiconductor investment worth 40,000 crore, which will contribute to power generation.

CM Sarma emphasized that Assam currently generates only 400 MW of power at a cost of Rs 9, which keeps domestic power tariffs lower compared to other states.

Furthermore, the introduction of smart meters in households has led to a significant reduction in power consumption, down by 60 percent. This reflects positively on the responsible and judicious use of electricity by the people.

These insights into Assam’s power situation and efforts to improve it were presented as part of the Chief Minister’s address during the Legislative Assembly session.
