Assam CM Advocates Social Transformation Over Electoral Gains, Focuses on ‘Miya’ Community Reforms
Guwahati, 9th April: Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, underscores the imperative of social transformation over electoral considerations, particularly addressing issues like polygamy, child marriage, and other concerns within the ‘Miya’ community. In an interview with PTI, Sarma articulates his stance on pivotal election issues and the BJP’s trajectory in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Assam.
Sarma unequivocally states that topics such as polygamy and child marriage are not focal points of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Assam. Instead, he perceives these as crucial areas necessitating social reforms within minority communities, emphasizing tangible development over electoral gains.
“I always say that obtaining votes is distinct from pursuing real development for the minority community. Now, whether they grant me votes or I seek their votes – that is immaterial,” Sarma affirms, underscoring the BJP’s commitment to substantial changes and advancement for all demographics.
Assessing the electoral landscape in Assam, Sarma anticipates a competitive contest in three out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats contested by the BJP-led NDA, while expressing confidence in securing a clean sweep for the saffron party in the remaining 11 seats across the state.
