Assam CM Announces Developmental Projects Worth Rs 894 Crore in Majuli
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a number of development projects worth a total Rs 894 crore on Sunday as part of a major development push for the riverine island of Majuli in Assam.
This was announced by CM Sarma while attending a public gathering in Majuli. The road connecting Majuli and Lakhimpur will be built at a pre-approved cost of Rs 694 crore and would meet national highway standards. It will be able to transport four vehicles at once.
Additionally, CM Sarma announced the construction of two modern bridges over the Subansiri and Lohit Rivers under the Asom Mala Scheme.
The task of building the bridges spanning the Subansiri and Lohit rivers has been given to SP Singla Constructions.
“Performed Bhumi Pujan for upgradation of road from Balichapori, Majuli to Bongalmara, Lakhimpur, including the construction of 2 major bridges over Luit & Subansiri rivers. The road & bridges will be built on EPC mode at the cost of Rs 694 cr under GoA’s flagship Asom Mala scheme,” Sarma tweeted.
Moreover, the government is considering turning Majuli Cultural Institution into a public university that will provide courses in Science, Arts, and Commerce in an effort to improve Majuli’s cultural climate.
A total of Rs 200 crore have been allotted by the government for the building of the Cultural University in Majuli with Rs 51 crore to be paid out in the first phase.
CM Sarma added, “Midday lunch at all elementary schools in Majuli in association with Akshay Patra foundation at a total cost of Rs 14 crore.”
