Assam CM announces financial aid for those in relief camps

Guwahati: Assam Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed displeasure with the current flood relief and restoration programmes in several districts of the state and promised to investigate any corrupt authorities.

Sarma on Thursday ordered all the district administrations of the flood affected areas to pay Rs 3,800 to each family staying in relief camps and other self-arranged shelters on dykes, roads etc., in next 3-4 days.

He instructed the district administrations to form “Task Forces” to compile a list of livestock losses and other damages by August 8, 2022, in order to clear compensation by August 15. Secretaries and guardians should collaborate during the entire exercise.

Sarma said, “Our Government will give students who had their textbooks ruined by floodwaters Rs 1,000.”

According to him, if the flood situation totally improved within a month, the state government would begin restoration efforts for the damages on August 15 of the following year.

The CM stated, “There needs to be an evaluation to see if there is a need for constructing bridges and culverts on the roads breached by the flood water.

He also warned the district administrations, requesting that no real impacted parties be left off of the lists that the DCs were to compile and that no made-up names be added.
