Assam CM Announces Major Administrative Reforms
Guwahati, 15th August: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled significant administrative reforms during his address at the Khanapara Veterinary Field in Guwahati on the occasion of India’s 77th Independence Day celebrations.
CM Sarma announced the abolition of the sub-division system in the state, introducing a new structure where sub-districts will be established within each constituency. This restructuring aims to streamline governance by placing key departments within these sub-districts, ensuring more efficient administration.
The chief minister highlighted that each sub-district will have an additional deputy commissioner to oversee operations. Furthermore, sub-divisional magistrates and circle officers will be established under the District Commissioners to address local issues within the constituencies, eliminating the need for citizens to travel to the district offices.
In response to the merging of certain districts with existing ones, CM Sarma indicated that decisions regarding these districts would be made within the next two months, emphasizing the government’s commitment to effective governance.
The proposed reforms signal Assam’s dedication to enhancing administrative efficiency, bringing government services closer to the people, and ensuring swift resolution of local concerns. This transformative step is poised to redefine the state’s administrative landscape and contribute to its growth and development.
