Assam CM Applauds PM Modi’s Northeast Development Initiatives

Guwahati, 8th March: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for recent initiatives aimed at enhancing development in the Northeast. Sarma took to the microblogging site X to praise decisions made by the Union Cabinet, highlighting their significance for the region’s progress.

Expressing gratitude for the government’s decade-long commitment to the region under PM Modi’s leadership, Sarma emphasized two key decisions demonstrating a substantial leap towards bolstering the region’s economic and social landscape.

Firstly, Sarma hailed the allocation of Rs 10,000 crore under the UNNATI scheme, aimed at attracting new-age industries to the region and generating nearly 1 lakh direct employment opportunities. This significant investment is expected to spur economic growth and pave the way for a prosperous future in the Northeast.

Secondly, the Chief Minister lauded an 82% increase in financial assistance for Tea Development, totaling Rs 528 crore. This enhanced support aims to strengthen the interests and livelihoods of the tea community, pivotal to the region’s socio-economic fabric. The boost in financial aid is anticipated to empower tea growers and ensure industry sustainability, given its cultural and economic significance.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, approved the Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the region’s economic resurgence. With a total outlay of Rs 10,037 crore over a decade, the scheme aims to unlock the region’s potential and foster inclusive growth.

UNNATI – 2024 offers a comprehensive set of incentives to encourage investment in new industrial units and facilitate the expansion of existing ones. These incentives, including capital investment incentives and central capital interest subvention, aim to stimulate industrial growth across the Northeast’s advanced and backward districts.
