Assam CM Celebrates Legacy of Lachit Borphukon During BJP’s Campaign Rally
Guwahati, 10th April: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, as part of the BJP’s Vijay Sankalp Yatra for the upcoming LS polls, led a campaign in Charaideo district under the Jorhat constituency today.
Addressing the gathered crowd, Sarma extended pre-Bihu wishes and highlighted the historical significance of the region, particularly emphasizing the legacy of the great fighter, Lachit Borphukon.
Sarma praised Borphukon’s courage and leadership, drawing parallels between him and historical figures like Chatrapati Shivaji. He emphasized Borphukon’s impact within and beyond the region, remarking on the rarity of such a formidable fighter.
The Chief Minister expressed pride in his government’s initiatives to elevate Borphukon’s stature nationally and internationally, contrasting previous administrations’ oversight of this historical figure.
Sarma detailed the extensive efforts to honor Borphukon’s legacy, including translating his biography into 23 Indian languages, collecting essays from 42 lakh individuals, and erecting a monumental 125-foot statue in Hollongapar, inaugurated by PM Modi.
He underscored the statue’s significance as a symbol of Assam’s rich heritage and the indomitable spirit of its people, marking a milestone in bringing Borphukon’s legacy to a wider audience across India.
Sarma concluded by highlighting the growing awareness and pride in Assam’s historical heroes, particularly noting the impact of honoring local legends on a national stage.
