Assam CM Commends Transformation of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and Welcomes Former Militants into Mainstream
Guwahati, 20th October: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 20 lauded the significant transformation of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), which has evolved into a beacon of peace and development.
He expressed his gratitude to the people for their trust in the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and extended a warm welcome to those who have chosen the path of peace over violence, reaffirming the commitment to the holistic growth of the Bodo community.
In a commendable move, Rs 2 lakhs each were distributed to 181 former members of the National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB), a militant organization that laid down its arms in July 2021.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the former cadres into mainstream society and urged them to utilize the rehabilitation support for self-employment opportunities and participate in various skill development programs offered by the State.
BTR Chief Pramod Boro echoed a sentiment of hope and reconciliation during the Financial Grant Distribution Ceremony for former NLFB cadres, held at the Madhabdeb International Auditorium in Panjabari, Guwahati.
Pramod Boro acknowledged the transformative decision of the NLFB to renounce violence and embrace the path of peace. This shift has laid the foundation for enduring peace and progress in the region, marking a significant step toward a brighter and more prosperous future for BTR.
The Financial Grant Distribution Ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including MLA Shri Lawrence Islary, EM Shri Ranjit Basumatary, Assam Police DGP Shri G.P. Singh, Shri Biswajit Pegu, Secretary, Home & Political Dept (IAS), Govt of Assam, ADGP, SB & STF Shri Hiren Chandra Nath, Dr. Ravi Kota, IAS, and several other esteemed guests. This event represents a symbol of progress and unity for the Bodoland Territorial Region.
