Assam CM Congratulates Abhinav Bindra on Receiving Olympic Order

Guwahati, July 23: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has extended his congratulations to Abhinav Bindra for being honored with the Olympic Order, the highest accolade presented by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for exceptional contributions to the Olympic Movement.

In a statement, Sarma lauded Bindra’s achievements and expressed his admiration for the Olympic gold medalist. “Abhinav Bindra’s dedication and accomplishments in the field of sports serve as a beacon of inspiration for our youth,” Sarma remarked, emphasizing Bindra’s role in motivating future generations to engage in sports.

Abhinav Bindra, who became India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist, was awarded the prestigious Olympic Order on July 22. The IOC Executive Board’s decision to honor Bindra was announced at a meeting in Paris, with IOC President Thomas Bach notifying him via a letter on July 20. “It is with great pleasure that I inform you that the IOC Executive Board has today decided to award you with the Olympic Order for your outstanding services to the Olympic Movement,” Bach wrote.

The award ceremony is set to occur during the 142nd IOC Session in Paris on August 10. Bindra, also a member of the IOC Athletes Commission, is the first Indian to receive this distinguished recognition.
