Assam CM Demands Hardline Position Against “Anti-Nationals”

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on Thursday that authorities would take a stern action against anyone engaged in anti-national activities following the arrest of a person on suspicion of being a state-sponsored Pakistani agent.

This comes after the arrest of an alleged Pakistani agent in Morigaon, Assam. A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) led operation resulted in the person’s arrest.

The Assam chief minister spoke about the issue expressing his anger and expressing his worries over the rise in traitorous activities in the state.

Assam CM Sarma said, “Action will be taken against all those involved in treason against the nation.”

“The state police has carried on with its crackdown on anti-nationals around the state along with the NIA,” added the Assam CM.

A man was arrested from Morigaon district of Assam by the CBI on Tuesday night on suspicion of being a Pakistani agent and having ties to terrorism.

According on the information, the CBI conducted a raid in Moirabari in the Morigaon district. One person was arrested during the operation by the central investigating agency.

According to the officials, the accused Pakistani spy was supplying SIM cards to Pakistani intelligence organisations from this location in Assam.

The investigating authority also detained the accused in Assam’s Morigaon and took two laptops and a number of other potentially damaging papers from his possession as evidence in the investigation.

It was determined that the alleged Pakistani agent’s name was Baharul Islam. According to authorities, he operated a mobile store in the Saruchala Bazaar area of the Moirabari police station in Assam.

Officials noted that he is accused of participating in treasonous activities from his mobile shop. According to authorities, a case has been filed and further legal action will be taken.

Treason and other major crimes have largely escaped notice as petty crimes have increased throughout Assam. However, the authorities’ actions are likely to give the public confidence in their protection.
