Assam CM Denies Alliance Talks with BPF Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls

Guwahati, 5th March: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has refuted claims of any discussions regarding an alliance with the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF). Addressing recent speculations on March 5, Sarma clarified that there have been no talks about forming an alliance with the BPF. However, he stated that if the BPF chooses to support the BJP in seats they won’t contest, it would be their decision.

While the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), BJP’s ally, has announced its intention to contest two seats, the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) will vie for one seat in the upcoming elections.

On March 4, Hagrama Mohilary, the chief of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), expressed confidence in his party’s electoral prospects, asserting their readiness to secure victory in two Lok Sabha seats and even secure a Union Cabinet berth post-elections. Mohilary emphasized the BPF’s influence beyond the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) areas, highlighting support from non-Bodo majority districts.

Despite their electoral ambitions, the BPF has decided to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls independently, rejecting alliances with other parties. Mohilary has reiterated the party’s readiness to win the Kokrajhar and Darrang-Udalguri Lok Sabha seats.
