Assam CM Directs Ministers to Avoid Political Remarks, Focus on Governance

Assam: In a bid to keep governance and development at the forefront, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a directive urging his ministers to refrain from making political comments or participating in political interviews.

The directive, issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), emphasized the government’s commitment to socio-economic progress and the importance of maintaining focus on citizen-centric initiatives.

“The government is vigorously pursuing an ambitious agenda of socio-economic development,” the directive stated. It referenced the recently launched “12 Days of Development” program and hinted at further initiatives aimed at transforming Assam’s socio-economic landscape. Ministers were advised to channel their energy toward implementing these programs effectively and to avoid distractions that could shift public focus.

The directive specifically addressed concerns about controversies arising from ministers’ political statements or reactions during media interactions. “It has been observed that some ministers, while interacting with the media, make political remarks or respond to political issues, leading to avoidable controversies. Certain sections of the media also provoke ministers to make sensational comments, which derail the focus on governance and development,” the order noted.

The Chief Minister urged ministers to strictly confine their media engagements to discussions on developmental activities, steering clear of political provocations. He stressed the need for a unified approach in ensuring the effective implementation of government policies, with the ultimate goal of delivering tangible benefits to the people of Assam.

The directive reflects the government’s determination to prioritize development and avoid distractions, signaling a clear message about its governance-first approach.
