Assam CM Dismisses BBC Documentary’s Allegations Against PM Modi As False
Guwahati: Chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke out against the BBC film “India: The Modi Question” which depicts the 2002 riots in Gujarat.
CM asserted during his address to the Assembly that the claims contained in the documentary against Prime Minister Narendra Modi are untrue.
Concerns about the BBC propaganda documentary were raised by the Assam Vidhan Sabha. According to CM Sarma, the documentary was published at a time when the G20 delegations were visiting Assam and more than five meetings were scheduled to take place there.
The Chief Minister of India acknowledged that 130 crore Indians had received vaccinations as a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s immunisation campaign. Additionally, he said that the G20 summit being hosted in India is a proud moment for the entire nation, not just Modi.
When Kanaklata was slain in Assam or Tileswari Barua of Dhekiajuli was shot and killed Sarma questioned the BBC’s coverage of Indian history especially the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and he questioned whether they had attacked the British authorities at the time. He added, a great moment for Modi and the entire nation India was just ranked 11th in terms of GDP growth rate a few days previous.
The Indian Prime Minister was given a clean bill of health by the Supreme Court and the Chief Minister expressed his disbelief at how the BBC was able to disparage him.
He noted that before 2002, people might have had many opinions and observations about the PM but since the Supreme Court verdict has already come in favor of the Prime Minister, how could the BBC make such a documentary and publish it in India?
In January, the BBC released a documentary film titled ‘India: The Modi Question,’ which features the Gujarat riots of 2002. The movie sparked debate because it hinted at Narendra Modi’s involvement in the riots while ignoring the Supreme Court’s exoneration of him. The comment from the Assam chief minister is just one of many opinions in the current debate regarding the documentary and its assertions.
